![]() Ruri would like nothing more than to forget Asahi and the country that summoned them, but the looming war-in Asahi's name-concerns her too much. Not sure why there is another beloved that wants to marry Jade, nor why the part with the delusional trafficked girl/maid was even in there. Unfortunately, fluffy children do not appear to be in her future… And Ruri is totally oblivious to the doting from Jade, as if she’s still a cat, while everyone else is thrilled the future queen is found. It is comical how they discovered she’s been under their noses the whole time. Poor Ruri, finding out that she could have been prevented from being summoned, but the spirits totally went with it because she wasn’t in life threatening danger. It does sound like her mom and grandpa are probably loved by spirits though. Her family is moving over, so…yay? I thought maybe it would turn out that they originally came from here, but probably not. Asahi is stupid beyond belief…kind of hard to see how she’s going to survive. I don’t quite understand why her family can see spirits, or how Asahi was able to use bewitch on people back in their original world (does that mean Asahi is attractive to spirits?). Ruri finally comes clean about her species, and she learns that she can communicate with her family. Everything Halle s a little too easily and conveniently (like the war being over in hours, and the king’s super secret weapon fizzling out in minutes). Has some inconsistencies, but is an ok read. Also, the fact that Ruri's oldest spirit companions have always been with her is simply adorable~ And I'm alllll for big twist concerning Ruri's family back home - not what they're capable of, as that's already been heavily hinted at earlier, but rather what they're planning on doing. On a far more positive note! There's undoubtedly more romance in this than the first volume, even with Ruri being her obtuse self, enough so that I've gained some pretty big hopes for the sequel. Also kind of ew the more I think about it. Taking Ruri out shopping was fine, but staying in the same room and refusing to leave when she got changed? Um, no. On the other, I don't usually jive with pushy characters. On the one hand, I like their ambiguous presentation and overall friendliness. The androgynous Euclase gives me mixed feelings. Like, excuse me? He just said why? It just makes me think that her obliviousness is more like willful blindness, which just makes me liken her to Asahi, which is definitely not a good thing. ![]() ![]() Also, that failed date of hers flat out said that she shouldn't have agreed to him asking her out when she already had "such a scary partner" in first place, and yet she still can't figure out why he suddenly stopped the date. I did find it a bit harder to root for her in this volume though because I found her sheer obliviousness to social cues kind of annoying. Ruri also finally reveals her true identity, thank god. I am BEYOND happy that Asahi finally gets that well-deserved slap, but I am somewhat disappointed that she and the rest of the unfortunate classmates get shunted off to some other place to live out their lives. Let’s get you started on your legacy.A fun continuation, although I do think it felt somewhat rushed, especially on the part of dealing with Asahi and the Nadasha kingdom.
